The National Organization for Women (NOW) and other women's liberation groups organized the Women’s Strike for Equality together to honor the 50th anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, an amendment that gave women in America the right to vote. Co-founder of NOW and activist, Betty Friedan stated three primary goals for the strike which is equality in the workplace, free childcare, and free abortion. It was an incredibly successful strike as the strike was organized by NOW, a small organization at the time. There was estimated to be 50,000 that joined the march with an astonishing amount of diversity. This poster was made by one of the participants of the Women’s Strike for Equality in New York which advocates for the workplace discrimination aspect. The march in New York would evoke marches all over America in support of women’s rights.
